You Can’t Be a Perfect Parent

If you want to be the perfect parent, what do you think that exactly means? Does it mean that you have to raise your child to be proper, courteous, and even exceptional?

Is that even possible?

Look, I’m not telling you that your kid is not perfect or that they can’t be exceptional. Or that you can’t be a great parent.

The thing with parenting is that it is hard enough as it is to raise a completely different human being.

It can be exhausting!

And you can make mistakes. The idea of a perfect parent is like you should already know how to be a parent, even if it’s your first time.

But just as your kid is learning about new things in life, you might also be learning how to become a parent.

First, you get to learn how to parent a newborn. Then, a toddler, and then comes a teenager. And all of these stages are going to be new for you.

So if you think you need to be a perfect child by being tough on your kid or getting riled up when you or your kid makes a mistake, you’re wrong.

You need to relax!

It sounds like your job is to raise a kid who is perfect, but it’s not. Your job is to make sure your child gets to experience their life in their own way.

They need to be able to find their true selves and not the kid the society wants. And to do that, you need to treat them as human beings and not always like a child.

You need to empathize with them through patience. And you need to figure out your own unique way of parenting your unique human being as a child.

Not the perfect way.

Don’t Have the Perfect Marriage

Any kind of romantic relationship is complicated. There are so many aspects of a relationship and the people in it.

Even though some aspects of a spousal relationship remain the same for everyone, that’s not true for everything else.

You’re human, right?

And so is your spouse! You have to acknowledge that every single human being on earth is a completely different person.

Yes, some aspects of personality might be common with you and others. But, all in all, you and your spouse have unique personalities.

So your marriage is different!

Just like all other marriages, yours is completely unique. So wanting the perfect societal marriage is never going to work for you.

It’s up to you to understand the person you want to be with for the rest of your life and even make compromises to make things work.

Same for your spouse!

And you can’t do that in a single day, or maybe in years. It’s a learning process! You two have to learn about each other and grow together. Not just your bodies! I’m talking about personal growth.

Only the two of you can decide what kind of marriage you have. Not others! And you can be perfect together in your own unique imperfections.
